About This Item

Description of Item

5051 - The Scarlet Letter

Gay Young Ousley
Abilene, TX    USA

Width: 9"   Length: 11.5"

Materials/Techniques: Fusing, hand embroidery, Hand dyeing, machine quilting and machine embroidery.

Artist's Statement: For too long, dementia patients and their families tried to hide their disease and discomfort from their friends, neighbors, even their physicians. The stigma must end. Early detection and treatment are beneficial, allowing the quality of life to continue while the search for the cure goes on. Alzheimer's Disease is not shameful.
Gay Young Ousley

Dedication: My own mother was stricken with Alzheimer's Disease and fought hard to keep anyone from knowing she had a problem. Early treatment could have allowed her to enjoy her grandkids and great-grandchildren, to continue her active social life, and to practice her golf game. This is dedicated to caregivers--may they have the courage to seek treatment as soon as they sense there may be a problem.

This quilt is displayed with Fast Finish Triangles.
