About This Item

Description of Item

"Louisiana's Oldest Town" Natchitoches, LA for 2 People for 3 Nights

Just a 4 hour drive from Dallas, TX, Natchitoches is Louisiana’s oldest permanent settlement from the Louisiana Purchase—established in 1714. The National Historic Landmark District is centered around Front Street beaming with charming reflection of the old south. Rarely seen outside of New Orleans,  French inspiration such as brick-paved streets, magnolia trees, and wrought-iron-laced buildings transport visitors and locals alike to a time where trade on the Cane River was lucrative. The Cane River was once    a channel of the Red River and became an essential trade route. When the Red River changed course overtime, earthen dams were build to preserve the waterway. Businesses thrived along the Cane River, thus many plantations, including the historic Melrose Plantation, served a huge role in the success of the region.

Included in this package:

Stay 3 nights in one of three Great Inns, located in the historic district just a block off Front Street.  Included is a private tour of the historic district, Cane River, and Melrose Plantation.                               Hear the stories from your local guide of the secrets behind the success of the region.

As if the history alone wasn’t enough, Natchitoches should be on every foodies’ list!                             When your head is full of knowledge, fill your belly with Natchitoches’ famous meat pies, shrimp grits,  and many other celebrated Creole-inspired eats at Maglieaux’s Riverfront Restaurant!
