Quilt #14,225 - Back to Oklahoma -

14,225 - Back to Oklahoma

Audrey Arno
Tuttle, OK USA

Width: 9" Length: 11.5"

Materials/Techniques: All fabrics are cotton, although the light blue may have something else in it These are scraps from a time I can hardly remember so I can't be sure. The block is the Road to Oklahoma and it is quilted in the diagonal chains with clear smoke thread.

Artist Statement: This is a modified and reduced size example of the first bed quilt I ever made about in 1991 or so. The color scheme is the same, although made with different fabric completely. It has a narrow border of print fabric instead of a much wider one, which dropped down the side of the bed in the original. The header is also different due to size limitations.

Quilt #14,733 - Woot! -

14,733 - Woot!

Kathy Larrieu
Williamsburg, VA USA

Width: 12" Length: 9"

Materials/Techniques: This is a crazy quilt, machine pieced using velvets, velveteen, and I think that beige piece is micro suede. The velvety fabrics are cut mostly from really ugly bridesmaid dresses (I can't imagine who else would've worn those things) or other recycled clothing. I'm not entirely sure where the micro suede came from. It is hand embellished using various embroidery techniques including the braided Hungarian stitch, featherstitch, herringbone stitch, fly stitch, French knots, bouillon knots, buttonhole stitch and several variations of the venerable chain stitch.

Artist Statement: "Woot!" is a modern celebratory exclamation - like "Yay!" or "Huzzah!” - typically accompanied by a fist-bump (as opposed to a high-five). Usage: "There's bacon for breakfast?! Woot!" Sometimes spelled w00t with zeros for the "o"s.

Dedication: To Grandma Kaky - who did not have Alzheimer’s. Woot!

Quilt #14,874 - Cathy's China Hutch I -

14,874 - Cathy's China Hutch I

JoAnn Stowell
Longview, WA USA

Width: 11.75" Length: 9"

Materials/Techniques: I drew on PFD white cloth and did a black outline around the contents. I used a little Inktense and water to add just a little color. It is free motion quilted and thread signed.

Artist Statement: Cathy's china hutch is a life story. It is not neat; it is interesting. Cathy does not have time to arrange and rearrange the things that are there. She is taking someone to Portland to the doctor or buying groceries for another friend. She does many things with and for her family. Her hutch is not restricted to just china, there are shells and rocks and any important thing that her family has gathered through the years. These things bring interest to her life and the lives of people that peer into that hutch. Have you looked at yours lately? Are there stories to be told? I think I should take another look at mine.

Dedication: To all the things that Cathy has done for me. I can never repay her or my brother. To mother who had Alzheimer's and to Barbara who is a great caregiver. Also to Ele' who can now start caring for herself.

Quilt #14,174 - I Love Chiesa Farm -

14,174 - I Love Chiesa Farm

Janice Shaw
Lexington, MA USA

Width: 11.5" Length: 9"

Materials/Techniques: This is a fabric collage using lots of scraps and fusible web. I used a photo of the scene as a pattern reference, fused the fabric, cut the design and ironed it to muslin. I added batting, did some machine quilting, embellishment and then machine quilted the whole thing using a cotton backing.

Artist Statement: I designed and coordinated making a historical contemporary quilt, "Pieces of Our Town" to honor Lexington, MA's 300th birthday. Seventeen women helped to accomplish this goal. I was proud of our work and wanted to do a separate block, similar to the original one on the quilt, of Chiesa Farm, which is one of our local conservation land areas. It is such a beautiful and special place to walk. Everyone should have their own special place!

Dedication: I made this quilt thinking of my friend Roberta who recently lost her dad, Raymond, and then her mom, Louise, to Alzheimer's. There has to be a better way!

This quilt has Fast Finish Triangles.
