Angled -

Artist: Sherri Lipman McCauley - Lakeway, Texas USA

Materials and Techniques: Hand painted and stenciled fabric. Circles appliqued and adhered with Mistyfuse. Machine stitched and quilted.

Artist's Statement: I like to work extemporaneously and in the abstract. Bright colors tend to excite me, as well as geometry and asymmetry. I typically work in the moment, working with paints and dyes on fabric, creating serendipitous designs. The simple line of a geometric shape, the blast of a colorful line, or the contrast of black against white makes my canvas sing.

Manhattan Mayhem -

Award: Members' Choice: Honorable Mention

Artist: Michelle A Banton - Lunenburg, MA USA

Materials and Techniques: Cotton fabrics and leather. Design based on Dresden Plate, Pieced and machine appliqued. Machine quilted.

Artist's Statement: On of my favorite places to visit is New York City because of all the hustle and bustle. I love seeing the colors, the people, the architecture, the smells and tastes - but I wouldn't want to live there. Too much mayhem on a daily basis for me. In my quilting I've been having fun with the Dresden Plate and doing all sorts of variations.

Going In Circles : X' and O's Hugs and Kisses -

Artist: Michele Muska - Enfield, CT USA

Materials and Techniques: Vintage feed sack yo yo's, hand stitching, prairie points

Artist's Statement: I adore yo yo's for the intimate time you spend with yourself while making them. These yo yo's were a left over vintage block that I removed several from so I would have space to hand stitch. When women started working out of the home in the 40's they still felt a need to be useful and hand stitching fulfilled that niche. It fulfills mine as well.

Garden Kitty -

Artist: Laurie Russman - New York City, NY USA

Materials and Techniques: Black Cherrywood and green ice-dyed cotton, fused appliqué, machine quilting

Artist's Statement: Inspired by the way our cat appeared to us one summer day, sunning himself in the myrtle, I wanted to capture the brilliant green of his eyes and how they echoed the leaves (while his sleek black fur nearly disappears in the shadows). The only portion of the cat that is appliquéd is his ears...the rest is simply delineated by lots of black metallic thread!

Snow Doggie! -

Artist: Laurie Russman - New York City, NY USA

Materials and Techniques: Batiks, acrylic paint, fabric ink, fused appliqué and (lots of) machine quilting

Artist's Statement: A snowy walk with a very handsome visiting Fidelco Guide Dog inspired this piece. It took a few rounds of fusing, inking and stitching before I was happy with his face...the background was sponged with white and grey paint then free-motion-quilted to simulate the snowy background and path that beckoned us.
