At John Knox Ranch, we foster experiences of Christian community in the beauty of God’s creation. JKR is a place where love, acceptance, grace, and FUN flow freely.

Just 1 hour from Austin and San Antonio, JKR offers resident camp for students entering grades 2 – 12 and day camp for kids ages 4 – 8. Resident campers live in rustic screened cabins with a trained counselor and 5-7 other campers in their age group. Two cabins make up a family unit that participates in activities together: swimming, archery, rappelling, rock climbing, arts and crafts, nature discovery, ropes challenge course, Bible study and spiritual formation, canoeing, sharing homemade family-style meals, and more. The family unit structure (called small group camping) is an important foundation of our summer camp program. Negotiating the selection of the daily activities, asking someone to “please pass the green beans,” and cleaning the cabin with your bunkmates all help teach campers how to live in community together and help them develop confidence, independence, and self-esteem. In the evenings, the whole camp comes together for large group games, hayrides, pool parties, campfires, star gazing, and worship. One night per session, each family unit spends a night under the stars across the creek on the nature preserve section of camp. Campers are nudged into their personal growth zone as they make their own dinner over the fire, cook s’mores, tell stories, giggle, and sleep under the stars.

Attending camp at JKR helps children and youth develop social and interpersonal skills, a sense of self, and an understanding of our place in and responsibility for this pretty planet. Lina Dib's installations and compositions range from the experimental to the ethnographic and investigate socio-technical and ecological change. Dib is an affiliate artist at the TML – Topological Media Lab at Concordia University in Montreal and is a teacher and fellow at Rice University in the Program in Writing and Communication and the Center for Energy and Environmental Research in the Human Sciences. She is co-founder of Fossilized Houston and the Solar Studios.

Her work has been supported by the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, Canada’s Social Science and Humanities Research Council, the Union of Concerned Scientists, AMIDA’s European training program, the City of Houston through the Houston Arts Alliance, and the Moody Center for the Arts among others. Recent publications include Audible Observatories: Notes on Performances (Bloomsbury); Sonic Breakdown, Extinction and Memory (continent.), The Forgetting Dis-ease: Making Time Matter (differences), and Of Promises and Prototypes: The Archeology of the Future (LIMN). Her work has been presented at venues including Lawndale Art Center Houston, Yerba Buena Gardens San Francisco, MOP Projects Sydney, The Museum of Fine Arts Houston, Day For Night, Galveston Arts Center, Governors Island NY, the Whitney Biennial 2017, and Johnson Space Center NASA.

Lindsay Mericli:

My ceramics are each made by me, by hand, over a period of weeks. First preparing the clay, then throwing, trimming, glazing, and finishing. I work in three clay mediums - balcones, dillo white, and porcelain. The beauty is in the process - and in the fact that each piece is unique and special.

I split my time throwing pottery between a tiny corner in my garage (sandwiched between the beer fridge and the kids’ scooters) and a local ceramics studio (with incredibly talented teachers and endlessly creative fellow students).

While working in Virginia, my former boss once told me that “it’s best not to complicate a ham sandwich.” So here I am, throwing vessels to hold something special in your home, made with clean lines and uncomplicated, simple forms. Enjoy.
