The 1984 Louisiana World Exposition was a World's Fair held in New Orleans, Louisiana. It was held 100 years after the city's earlier World's Fair, the World Cotton Centennial in 1884. It opened on Saturday, May 12, 1984 and ended on Sunday, November 11, 1984. Its theme was "The World of Rivers-Fresh Waters as a Source of Life". Plagued with attendance problems, the World Exposition has the distinction of being the only exposition to declare bankruptcy during its run. Many blamed the low attendance on the fact that it was staged just 2 years and two states from Knoxville's 1982 World Fair, and because it coincided with the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. Others may believe that the 1982 opening of Walt Disney World's Epcot Center may have drawn more people to Orlando, Florida. This expo had the distinction of being the very first World Exposition in the history of expos to have an official fair mascot, Seymore D. Fair, a large white costume pelican.

Jessica was introduced to plastic arts at a very young age in her hometown school in Chihuahua, Mexico. Early on, she began experimenting with a variety of painting and drawing techniques. As a young artist, she moved to Monterrey to more deeply pursue her interests in the arts. She earned a bachelor's degree at the Instituto Technologico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey, while simultaneously continuing her artistic studies. In 2001, she moved to Dallas to expand her art skills, experiment with different techniques, materials, textures and search for personal growth as an artist. Since moving to Texas, Jessica has been featured in multiple art exhibitions and has beeen recognized by local and international organizations as an artist showcasing her multi-cultural background and experiences in her artwork.

Only 25 boxes will be sold at $150 each. Each box will have painting supplies for 2 persons, a "Bevo" tea towel, and items to make the favorite Texas cocktail: Casamigos Ranch Water. Winners will be notified by email when to pick up their Art Box from Ursuline. An email will arrive with details on logging-in for the class. Tune into "Zoom Live" on Thursday April 28, 2021 for a guided drawing and paint class. You will create a wonderful masterpiece to show off your Longhorn spirit.
