The Empty Bowls of Denton has been fighting hunger in the Denton community since 2000. All of the proceeds from our annual luncheon and online sale/auction benefit the Denton Community Food Center and Our Daily Bread Soup Kitchen together with Monsignor King Outreach Center.

The Denton Community Food Center (DCFC) provides food from a central community storehouse to needy families and individuals struggling with hunger insecurity. The DCFC is averaging  834 families per month.  Keep in mind that families under COVID-19 Emergency Guidelines are allowed to come to DCFC every other week (essentially twice per month) compared to pre-pandemic when we allowed 6 visits per year (no more than once a month - 6 times).  Essentially services have grown from 6 visits annually to 24 visits annually (4 times increase). DCFC is now providing food to an average of 140 families per day, and has distributed 690,959 pounds of food.  The DCFC  has been run by an all volunteer team for the last 46 years.

Our Daily Bread feeds and cares for the homeless and at-risk in our community while maintaining the dignity of their guests, and offering opportunities for a new start.   They merged with Monsignor King in September of 2020.  This expanded the program significantly.  They now provide shelter, case management, and housing assistance in addition to meals and supportive services.

Our Daily Bread is a community kitchen. It serves the hungry, no questions asked. It is a not-for-profit, secular charity.  Beginning with the COVID pandemic in 2020, all aspects of their organization and those they serve have been impacted.  Meals served have increased drastically, with an average of 700 meals per day and 800 snack packs per month.  Since they opened their doors in 2000, they have delivered more than 1.3 million meals.

While many people are experiencing, or are at risk of experiencing homelessness, and find it difficult to access food and other essential resources, Our Daily Bread is tailoring their services to bridge that gap.
