Empty Bowls of Denton

is a ministry of Christ The Servant Lutheran Church

Proceeds benefit The Denton Community Food Center and

Our Daily Bread Community Kitchen

The Denton Community Food Center (DCFC) provides food from a central community storehouse to needy families and individuals struggling with hunger insecurity. The DCFC is averaging 1,200 families per month (approximately 150 households per day) and they are receiving 100+ pounds of food each visit. Due to the economy, DCFC has seen a marked uptick in visits - with 18% to 20%new clients every single day. The number of women only households has also grown. DCFC is open for food distribution Mondays and Wednesdays from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm, and each household can come once per month. The DCFC has been run by an all-volunteer team for the last 47 years. DCFC is in need of more volunteers to assist with their program.

Our Daily Bread (ODB) feeds and cares for the homeless and at-risk in our community while maintaining the dignity of their guests, and offering opportunities for a new start. ODB merged with Monsignor King Outreach Center in September of 2020. This expanded the program significantly. As one organization, they connect their guests to a community and resources that will move them forward towards meaningful, independent living.

Our Daily Bread is a community kitchen. It serves the hungry with no questions asked. It is a not-for-profit, secular charity. Meals served have increased drastically over the last few years, with an average of 800 meals per day and 800 snacks per month. The cost per meal based on the first four months of 2022 is $5.87.  They serve breakfast and lunch at their main site 6 days a week. They have expanded services to include dinner 7 days a week at their shelter. Since they opened their doors in 2000, they have delivered more than 1.3 million meals. In 2022, they are on track to exceed the 2021 numbers by 10% or more. They have also added two new programs in 2022 that support mental health and workforce training initiatives.
