Quilt #5249 - Waiting For Bill

Judy Leathers
Pelham, AL    USA

Width: 9"   Length: 12"

Materials/Techniques: Hand-painted background (SkyDyes). Figure was done with fabric paints and commercial cottons and appliquéd by machine. Batiks, metallic threads and variegated were used. Quilted by domestic machine.

Artist's Statement: I wanted to make a quilt based on a true story about my friend's mother that has always stayed with me. Annie Mae wandered from her home and caused a lot of frenzy for the family. When she was finally found blocks away she calmly said, "I'm waiting for Bill." Bill was her husband of almost 40 yrs. He died in 1974. Annie Mae was waiting for him in 1979. She died in a nursing home in 1986.
Judy Leathers

Dedication: In memory of Annie Mae Heflin and so many others who are waiting.

This quilt is displayed with Fast Finish Triangles.
