About the Artist Beth created her bowl with the assistance of Steve Macias, a potter at SPARC, a co-op studio in McKinney. Dr. Beth Black moved to McKinney, Texas from Washington DC. She retired from NASA in 2018 after three decades in federal service. Beth, a Phi Beta Kappa, received her Bachelor of Science from The University of Texas at Austin, Master of Public Affairs from the UT L.B.J. School, and Doctorate of Philosophy in Planning, Governance, and Globalization from Virginia Tech. Beth founded the sister nonprofits, MillHouse Foundation and MillHouse McKinney. She serves as Board President, as well as Executive Director. Beth is active in the community, serving on the Boards for Volunteer McKinney and McKinney Art Studio Tours. She participates in the Empty Bowls campaign to combat hunger as a celebrity potter and artist.
