Secret Political Statements -

Mrs. Fisher said when she was working with Sherry Adams and Lou Ann Burk at The Quilt Shop, Sherry did a series of samplers to hang in the shop. These are the leftover over blocks that she put together into a quilt. Designed and Stitched by Linda Fisher Quilted by Shari Adams. Lubbock TX. Block Names: Secret Ballot, Prairie Queen, Roosevelt’s Favorite, Best of All, Dewey’s Dream, Village Square, July 4th, Little Giant. Made in 2004. Machine Quilted. 56" length 55.5" width.

A garden in the Stars -

Mrs. Fisher said she did not make this quilt; she just owned it. This is something else she found at an estate sale. She sees things she just cannot pass up. She used to hand quilt with these folks and knew them all. They had a good time quilting together and she knew they would do a great job. Some of these people are still quilting. Quiltmaker unknown. Quilted by 1st United Methodist quilters. Top: c. 1920s-1940s Quilters: 2001. Hand Quilted. 102" length 98" width.

Amish Inspired -

Mrs. Fisher said this is a small, preprinted panel that she hand quilted. It had a little doll that came with it, but she cannot find it. Made by Linda Fisher in Lubbock TX 2010. Hand Quilted. 34.5" length 35" width.

Celtic Celebration -

Mrs. Fisher said this quilt won first place at the South Plains Fair and second place at the Second Annual Arts Festival. The quilt has lots of applique work. This was mostly hand work and she quilted by hand. This is one of the first appliqué pieces that she submitted to a contest. Linda Fisher, First Place Lubbock Fair 1999 Second Annual Festival second place winner. Made by Linda Fisher in Lubbock TX October 1998. Hand Quilted. 88" length 79" width.

Sampler -

Mrs. Fisher said this is one of her first big quilts. She had found a book that had lots of patterns. She started doing them all and just put it all together. There are potholders and lots of different things represented in the quilt squares. Made by Linda Fisher in Lubbock TX April 1996. Hand Quilted. 102" length 110" width.

Cathedral Window floral Pillow -

Mrs. Fisher said this is a floral pillow done in the cathedral window quilt technique. When you pull the fabric back you can see what’s underneath. There is a sort of rolled edge on the diamonds that shows what’s underneath – sort of a rolled edged on diamonds. Made by Linda Fisher. 13" length 17" width.

Mrs. Fisher said she used to do a lot of smocking. She bought her first Bernina machine by making smocked dresses for her friends’ little girls. She still sews on that machine. 13" length 16" width.

Treasured Blocks -

Mrs. Fisher said the quilt is made up of various fabrics including cotton, flannel, silk, seersucker, and lots more. She bought the blocks and central medallion at a garage sale. She didn’t buy them together, but they went together. The backing fabric has images from civil war. She had the material, so she used it. Mid-late 1800’s 39- 9” patches and center medallion from garage sale. Made by Linda Fisher in Lubbock TX June 2020. Machine Quilted. 65.5" length 66" width.

Sashiko Patterns -

Mrs. Fisher said she found this in Hawaii. She did the embroidery and quilting including the cat and the rabbit. The original pattern was much larger to begin with, but there wasn’t enough room around the pattern to cut it out. So, she cut it down to fit. Designs created by and fabric found in Hawaii by Linda Fisher. Made by Linda Fisher in 2020. Hand and Machine Quilted. 39" length 31.5" width.

Red and Green Crazy -

Mrs. Fisher said this was made from scraps and blocks she bought when Rachel’s fabrics went out of business in Lubbock. She purchased the squares and started playing around with them and ended up with a crazy quilt. She did 4 of these quilts. The blocks are built around embroidered samples that Linda purchased from Rachel’s the quilting/fabric shop on 50th Street in Lubbock when they were going out of business. Made by Linda Fisher in Lubbock TX in May 2020. Machine Quilted. 22" length 63.5"

Sunbonnet Sue -

Mrs. Fisher finished the quilt top in the Sunbonnet Sue pattern by doing the quilting and the binding and she put a sleeve on the back so it could be hung. Quilted by Linda Fisher. Hand appliqued with embroidery stitches. Hand pieced sashing. Quilt top given to Linda Fisher by Douglas Jones who received the piece from Joy Moore who received it from Debbie Saenz. Mrs. Fisher said on this quilt she used a tablecloth from her grandmother on the back simply because it was the right color and she thought it would be nice. Folk Art #3 -

Mrs. Fisher said this is one of two small pieces she did (the other is #45). She was playing with some felt and a pattern she had found years ago. When she started working with it, she realized why she hadn’t used it before. The dimensions were off, so she made 4 pieces rather than one large quilt it was meant to be. There is wool appliqué and machine embroidery and she added some embellishment. Made by Linda Fisher July 2020. Machine Quilted. 25.5" length 20.5" width.

Folk Art #4 -

Mrs. Fisher said this is the second of the two pieces she made from an old pattern (#44 is the other). She was using a pattern she had found years ago. When she started working with it, she realized why she hadn’t used it before. The dimensions were off, so she made 4 pieces rather than one large quilt it was meant to be. Mrs. Fisher said this is the second of four quilts she made from blocks she bought when Rachel’s fabrics went out of business. Hexagon Scrappy -

Mrs. Fisher said she bought a stack of blocks that are hand pieced hexagons. These are the hardest shapes to put together. The blocks were most likely made in 1950’s. She thinks the fabric is from feed sacks since the original maker used feed sack threads in the hand piecing. The blocks are from an estate sale. Hand pieced w/feed sack thread. Italy on My Mind -

Mrs. Fisher and her husband went with a tour group to Italy in 2019. She bought some fabric in a small shop. When she got home she looked at what she could put with it. Grandmother’s Flower Garden -

Mrs. Fisher said this quilt had not been finished when she got it. No one could figure out how to put a border on it because it isn’t straight. She took fabric and basted it so it would fit the irregular size and hand embroidered the edges down.
