Nine Patch Checkerboard 70" X 79".  1880-1900, place & maker unknown; possibly Pennsylvania. From the collection of Linda Koenig, author of Scrap Quilts and Ratsburg Road Quilts, (both published by Quiltmaniaand The 4" x 5" Quilt- Block Anthology. Published on p. 18 of Scrap Quilts (Mania) by Linda Koenig, (France: QuiltMania, 2012). This is Barbara Brackman pattern #2413b.  Forty two 7" blocks composed of one or more dark prints set on white in each block, are set on point alternating with a light peach-orange micro stripe setting square. The center is framed by a 2" border of white and a 2" border of the orange and a second orange print fabric to complete the outer border.  The applied binding is white over a white back.  Hand pieced and joined, nicely hand quilted in 1" square lattice in the setting squares, 1" diagonals through the pattern blocks, and 1" double line diagonals through the borders.  Light staining and foxing, especially on the back and binding edge, but otherwise substantial. This quilt exemplifies the scrap quilt aesthetic espoused in her scrap quilts using multiple fabrics and values in a single block, turning stripes in different directions, etc. In Scrap Quilts, Linda says of this quilt "You won't find any orange or peach fabric on my shelves, yet the soft color of the setting blocks in this old album quilt caught my fancy.  I just love the maverick blocks pieced with green and blue." (Donated by Bryn Inman in memory of her mother, Linda Koenig.)
